My name is Colin Hodge and welcome to my personal website. I am a recent graduate of the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in pure mathematics. I just moved from Salt Lake City, Utah spending the winter after graduation working at Alta Ski Lifts Company to Seattle, WA in order to pursue a career in the engineering field.
Below are a collection of 3D renders for projects I have been apart modeled in SolidWorks (rendered on sketchfab.com), followed by a short description.
Senior design project, to create a holder that tests new permeable material concepts for hypersonic leading edges. Holder is used in an inductively coupled plasma torch faciltiy and undergoes loads simulating re-entry to the upper atmosphere. An existing design was modified to add the ability to monitor pressure and volumetric flowrate for the transpiration gas flowing through the material. The holder was analyzed under simulated loads in ABAQUS to get an idea about how it would preform, simulated results were then compared to hand calculations, (report can be seen below in the "school work" section).
During the Covid-19 pandemic my roommates and I picked up skateboarding as we could no longer go skiing. With all of the free time in quarantine, we started to design a half-pipe in SolidWorks made out of wood. We created a material list to find materials that would withstand damage from weather and overuse. Eventually we ended up constructing it in the backyard of our apartment. So far it has been up and functioning for over a year, sadly as we have moved out it has been removed.
Senior year I took "Advanced SolidWorks" as an elective so I could learn advanced drafting techniques. For the final project we were tasked to model a transporation vehicle, using what was learned over the semester. I have always thought tandem bikes were interesting both mechanically and aesthetically, so that became my transportion vehicle. For the formal report we were required to hand in dimensioned drawings, part descriptions, and a bill of materials, (report can be seen below in the "school work" section).
Highlighted below are some school projects I have been apart of along with my resume.
